The Messier Bits: Coping with the Wind and the Dry

This area is off the end of the house, and the nor’west wind screams through here

Nothing could cope with the wind, I tried four different planting schemes, and in 2018 I tried succulents as a last resort.

Initially I didn't know what I was planning, just chucking in the toughest plants I owned.

I didn't even know that gravel gardens were a thing. I did know enough not to feed the soil.

Initially some of the planting looked a bit odd...

But then I began to read about Beth Chatto.....

And Olivier Filippi.

But now this is one of the easiest and most rewarding parts of the garden.

I really enjoy the unusual shapes and colours
